BHUBANESWAR: Five suspended officers from the Bharatpur police station in Bhubaneswar, accused of assaulting an Army Captain and his girlfriend on September 15, will undergo polygraph tests in Gujarat on Monday. This move comes amid increasing scrutiny over the incident, which has raised concerns about police conduct.
According to reports, the group includes Bharatpur IIC Dinakrushna Mishra, who will face not only a polygraph test but also brain mapping and a narco test, as murder charges have been lodged against him. The remaining four officers—Sub-Inspector Baishalini Panda, Assistant Sub-Inspector Sagarika Rath, Salilamayi Sahu, and another police SI who was present at the station during the incident—will only undergo polygraph tests.
A three-member team from the Crime Branch has taken the officers to a forensic laboratory in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, following permission from the Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate (SDJM) court in Bhubaneswar.
Given the lack of eyewitness accounts or CCTV footage of the incident, the second Sub-Inspector present during the altercation has been accepted as an eyewitness in the case. The outcome of the polygraph tests is expected to play a crucial role in the investigation and the legal proceedings that follow.
This incident has sparked public outrage and calls for accountability within the police force, highlighting the need for thorough investigations into allegations of police misconduct.
