Nibedita Pradhan, a former MLA and the mayor of Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC), died away today in a local private hospital. She was sixty. A few days ago, Pradhan was diagnosed with pneumonia and subsequently hospitalized to the ICU of a private hospital.
Pradhan passed away this afternoon despite the physicians’ best attempts. Lawyer by trade, Pradhan was chosen as a BJP candidate for the Cuttack Sadar constituency in the year 2000. She was chosen to serve as CMC’s mayor in 2005.
As word of her passing spread, melancholy filled the city. Crossing party lines, leaders of several political parties, acquaintances, and well-wishers have expressed their sorrow at her passing.
