Bhubaneswar, Mar 21: veteran leader and former BJD leader Damodar Rout is critical, informed his son and Paradip MLA Sambit Routray today.
He served as a Minister at different times between1979 and 2017 holding different portfolios in the State Cabinet. Talking to the media persons, Sambit held the Capital Hospital authorities responsible for his father’s health condition and alleged that doctors at the state-run hospital did not provide him CPR which led to extensive brain damage.
Sambit said that his father suffered a cardiac arrest on March 18 following which he was initially rushed to Capital Hospital at around 3 pm. However, Sambit alleged that the doctors at the hospital did not provide him CPR despite several requests.Thereafter, he was shifted to a private hospital and there was a delay of 15 to 20 minutes in the shifting. As a result, his brain suffered extensive damage due to lack of oxygen supply, alleged Sambit. he also spoke about how “After arriving in the private hospital, CPR was given to my father and his heart started functioning but his brain is not functioning. His condition is very critical, ” added Sambit.
Capital Hospital Director Dr Laxmidhar Sahu Director of Capital hospital ,Bhubaneswar, said that Rout was brought to the hospital’s casualty unit two days back. His oxygen saturation level had dropped and records also showed stage 5 kidney issues. He further added that he was attended by a team of doctors who provided him oxygen and also conducted ECG. The leader was provided with necessary primary treatment at the hospital, but he had to be shifted to other hospital as the Capital Hospital did not have specialized doctors for kidney-related issues.
