Former Odisha Bureaucrat Gopinath Mohanty Dies Of Covid-19

Former bureaucrat, noted writer and husband of former Korei MLA Sachita Mohanty,  Gopinath Mohanty passed away here after battling COVID-19.

According to the official report, Mohanty was battling the world deadliest virus- Coronavirus for the last few days and was also undergoing treatment in a private hospital in Bhubaneswar. He was in his seventies and is survived by his wife and former Koreir MLA Sanchita Mohanty and two sons.

The report further stated that he started his career as an OAS officer and served in various capacities with the Odisha government before being promoted to IAS which is from the 1989 batch. He also served as collector of Dhenkanal and Angul districts and then held the positions of secretary of culture and information and publication relations department.

He was also a known writer, literary organiser and researcher on Lord Jagannath culture. He was the Founder President of Shree Jagannath Sanskruti Parisad, Odisha and the President of Vyasakabi Fakir Mohan Sansad.

State BJP president Sameer Mohanty mourned his death, describing him as a multi-talented person who will always be remembered. Odisha Governor Prof Ganeshi Lal also expressed his condolences on the demise.

From his official Twitter account, Odisha Governor quoted- “Hon’ble Governor is saddened to know about the sad demise of Gopinath Mohanty, former bureaucrat & culture activist and conveyed his deep sympathy to the bereaved family. ‘His contribution to the literary and cultural field of Odisha will be remembered forever,’ said Hon’ble Governor.”
