Fresh spell of cold wave from Dec 31; western disturbance to trigger rain, snowfall

At a time when the winter chill is playing hide and seek, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday predicted fresh spell of dense fog and cold wave over northwest India from December 31, 2022.

As per IMD, there will be a gradual rise in the minimum temperature by 2 to 3 degree C over plains of Northwest India during the next two days and fall by 2 to 3 degrees thereafter.

Moreover, there will be reduction in dense fog and cold day conditions over northwest India during the next 48 hours.

“A fall in minimum temperature by 3 to 5 degree Celsius is likely over many parts of East India during the next two days and rise by 2 to 3 degree Celsius thereafter,” said IMD.

Cold wave conditions are very likely in isolated pockets over Punjab on December 29. Cold wave conditions in isolated pockets over Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi and north Rajasthan on January 1 and January 2, 2023.

Cold day conditions are very likely in isolated pockets over Punjab on December 28 and December 31 and January 1, 2023; over Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi on December 31 and January 1, 2023. Isolated to scattered light rainfall/snowfall is likely over Western Himalayan Region on December 29 and December 30, 2022 under the influence of a western disturbance.
