Philanthropy is not just about donating money—it is about compassion, responsibility, and a commitment to creating a better future for all. Author Rohit Shetty, known for weaving powerful narratives that inspire thought and action, shares his perspective on how individuals and communities can contribute meaningfully to society. In this conversation, he reflects on the true essence of giving back and why each of us has a role to play in building a more inclusive, empathetic world.

Q1. What does “giving back to society” personally mean to you, and how did your journey into social work and philanthropy begin?

Answer: For ages every generation has seen income inequality amongst the people. We generally classify them as the rich, poor and the middle class. Philanthropy is not just restricted to people who are rich but also by other sections of society.Through writing you can influence the minds of many people. However to survive in this world one needs money.I got a lot of recognition in the literary world  and slowly I used to do philantrophy. Through writing we benefit the society and as such through philanthropy we can contribute to the needy. This is how I gave back to the society for a noble purpose.

Q2. In your opinion, what are some simple yet impactful ways that individuals, regardless of their financial status, can contribute to society?

Answer: There is a quote which says that “If God blesses you financially don’t increase your standard of living, increase your standard of giving” Many of us get our monthly income.Just as we make investments to secure our future, wouldn’t it be nice that some part of your saved income goes to the needy. It is like ,”If all of us spread the light ,there is no room for darkness”

Q3. Many people associate philanthropy with wealth. How can we shift the narrative to include acts of kindness, volunteering, and community service as equally valuable?

Answer:As I had mentioned earlier, philanthropy is not just restricted to those who are rich. When you give money to a beggar you give it with the intention that he can get his meals for the day.As such you are not giving alms with the thought that you would appear in the news article on the next day.Compassion,Love and Cause leads you to philantrophy not just wealth.

Q4. From your perspective, what role does youth play in driving meaningful social change, and how can we encourage them to participate more actively?

Answer: For all generations irrespective of nations, the youth are the torch bearers of the future of their country. We should always guide the youth by inculcating in them a sense of patriotism and make them realize the importance of contributing to the society and helping the needy.

Q5. Corruption, inequality, and lack of resources often hinder social progress. How can philanthropy and social work bridge these gaps effectively?

Answer: Ratan Tata a name which comes in my mind when it comes to philantrophy. He used to contribute a lot for the welfare of the people.A visionary always inspires every generations. In any  political scenario the root cause of corruption is greed. Also I believe in humanity rather than inequality. We should not differentiate people with the amount of money one has.Although irrespective of the barriers like corruption, inequality and lack of resources a small contribution from each one of us can bridge the gaps effectively.

Q6. Could you share an example from your personal experiences where an act of giving—big or small—created a lasting impact on a community or individual?

Answer: It was indeed great to have participated in a lot of initiatives by Celebrity Times. It really feels good when you can bring a smile on old aged people by gifting them with Sarees and other stuffs.

Q7. Finally, what message would you like to leave for readers who want to give back but don’t know where to start?

Answer: Small drops can create a big ocean.A small contribution by each one of us would create a lasting and a bigger impact on the society.Reaching out to the needy is not a weird feeling but an act done out of compassion.
