“Gorillaz Announce India-Inspired Album The Mountain, Featuring Collaborations with Asha Bhosle and Anoushka Shankar”

Gorillaz, the iconic animated band created by British musician Damon Albarn and artist Jamie Hewlett, have announced their ninth studio album The Mountain, set to release on March 20, 2026. This will be the band’s first album under their new label, KONG, and parts of it were recorded across India — including Mumbai, Delhi, Rajasthan, and Varanasi.

Drawing from Indian influences, the record features collaborations with legendary singer Asha Bhosle, vocalist Asha Puthli, sitar virtuoso Anoushka Shankar, flautist Ajay Prasanna, and sarod maestros Amaan and Ayaan Ali Bangash. Beyond India, recording sessions also took place in London, Devon, Los Angeles, Damascus, Ashgabat, New York, and Miami. The album was co-produced by Gorillaz alongside James Ford, Samuel Egglenton, Remi Kabaka Jr., and Bizarrap.

The band recently previewed a single, The Happy Dictator, which features American duo Sparks. The 15-track album is noted for its multilingual range, with vocals in Arabic, English, Hindi, Spanish, and Yoruba. The track was first introduced during a secret London performance last week.

Alongside the announcement, Gorillaz also revealed plans for a UK and Ireland tour in 2026, marking the beginning of a new era for the group.
