The Indian Government has asked WhatsApp to withdraw the proposed changes in its privacy policy announced by the Facebook Inc Owned messaging application earlier this month stating the new terms will take away the choice from Indian users.
The Indian government stated that the proposed changed will raise grave concerns over the implications of the choice and the autonomy of the Indian citizens. in an email letter addressed to WhatsApp CEO Will Cathcart, the Electronics and Information Technology Minister pointed out that the Indian users who have not been given the option to opt-out of the data sharing with Facebook companies were now been subjected to different treatment when compared to their European counterparts.
As per the reports, the email was dated 18th January 2021 where it stated – “The proposed changes raise grave concerns regarding the implications for the choice and autonomy of Indian citizens. Therefore, you are called upon to withdraw the proposed changes.”
A few Days ago WhatsApp set up a new privacy policy where it contained new terms that faced a lot of criticism on social media. Later it claimed that the new privacy policy update does not affect the privacy of user’s messages with family, friends, and in groups.
