Hathras District Magistrate Praveen Kumar Laxkar has been captured on issuing a veiled threat to family of the 19-year-old Dalit girl whose death has triggered nationwide outrage. The video footage gone viral on social media.
In a video that has surfaced, DM Praveen Laxkar can be seen telling the victim’s dad, “Half of the media individuals have left today, the other half will leave by tomorrow. Just we will remain with you. It is up to you whether you need to change your statement or not.”
While addressed to India Today/Aaj Tak’s Tanushree Pande, Hathras DM Praveen Laxkar decided to stay quiet instead of giving a reaction.
The Hathras DM and Uttar Pradesh Police have experienced harsh criticism for their discourse. Family of the victim have guaranteed that her body was incinerated in the night against their assent.
