The vaccination drive has already begun in Odisha but, now the health workers are refusing to take the COVID-19 vaccine as this will lead them to lose the chance to get Covid vaccine free of cost later.
Odisha Health Director Bijay Panigrahy informed about the health worker’s denial of intake of vaccination. Many health workers informed the authority in writing that they will not take the vaccine as a mark of protest.
Around 15,000 multipurpose health workers have refused to take the Covid-19 vaccine in protest against the state government’s alleged callousness in cadre restructuring and designation change.
Panigrahy stated that they have appealed to the health workers to come forward and get the vaccination so that they will be safe along with their families. But the health workers who will deliberately remain absent and will refuse to take the vaccine then take the vaccine may not get the same free of cost later.
Under the banner of Odisha State Male and Female Multipurpose Health Workers’/Health Supervisors’ United Association, the health workers wore black badges as a representative protest and then refused to take the vaccine as according to them their demand is not yet fulfilled.
He further informed that the second day of the first phase of the vaccination process was successful. As many as 32,526 health workers were immunized in 375 sessions against the government target of 31,902. As of now, the government achieved a 102% target by vaccinating more health workers.
