Honorary physician Dr. Hemant Gupta of the Sir JJ Group of Hospitals had his contract terminated after his name was brought up in the ongoing inquiry into a purported scam involving the enormous Covid-19 facilities run by the Mumbai Municipal Corporation. The BMC awarded M/s Lifeline Hospital Management Services a contract to provide staff at the mega centres, and Dr. Gupta is one of the company’s co-owners. According to the Enforcement Directorate, the company secured the contract by using false documents and had no prior knowledge of staffing medical facilities.
As a result of Dr. Hemant Gupta’s name appearing in the ongoing Enforcement Directorate (ED) investigation into the alleged scam involving the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s (BMC) jumbo Covid-19 centres, the state medical education department has terminated Dr. Gupta’s contract as an honorary physician at Sir JJ Group of Hospitals, according to officials aware of the development.
