A special investigation team (SIT), led by senior IPS officer K Jayaraman, was established by the Calcutta High Court last week to look into the death of the third-year mechanical engineering student.The mother of an IIT Kharagpur student who was discovered dead in a dormitory on campus in October of last year has written to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to request her assistance in securing a prompt investigation into the issue.
“I respectfully ask for your gracious assistance in this case so that the newly formed investigative team may be let to work without interference and determine who murdered my son, as well as why. In her letter to the chief minister on Saturday, the mother of the student said, “I also request that measures be taken to catch the murderers and guarantee that they are punished so that justice is meted out to my slain son.
