BHUBANESWAR: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted light to moderate rain and thundershowers, accompanied by lightning, across 20 districts of Odisha on Tuesday and Wednesday.
A yellow alert has been issued for both north and south Odisha on Tuesday due to the likelihood of rain and lightning. Districts under this alert include Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Nuapada, Bolangir, and Bargarh.
Adding to this, the IMD has predicted the formation of another depression over the west-central Bay of Bengal by October 6. This system is expected to intensify the rainfall in Odisha from October 4 onwards. The state is likely to witness scattered rain from October 4 to October 10, leading to a wet spell coinciding with the Durga Puja festivities.
So far, Odisha has received 1,092 mm of rainfall during the monsoon season, starting from June 1, but the state is still facing a 5% rain deficit, according to the IMD.
