As the monsoon trough line at mean sea level continues to pass through Jaisalmer and the centre of well-marked low-pressure area hovers over East Rajasthan and adjoining Northwest Madhya Pradesh, the Bhubaneswar Met department issued orange and yellow alerts for several Odisha districts for the next 24 hours.
According to the official reports, IMD further stated that light to moderate rain or thundershower is very likely to occur at most places over the districts of Odisha from 8:30 am on Wednesday till 8:30 am on Thursday. They have also issued an orange warning for the district of Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur and Deogarh.
The report further added that as an impact, it might trigger landslides/mudslides in vulnerable hilly areas and cause a rise in water levels in rivers (Brahmini basin). The heavy rain can temporarily cause water logging in low-lying areas, periodic reduction of visibility causing traffic congestion in urban areas and some damage to kutcha roads and vulnerable kutcha houses.
Similarly, a yellow warning has also been issued by the IMD for Keonjhar, Angul, Boudh, Kandhamal, Sonepur, Kalahandi, Bargarh, Bolangir, Nuapada, Nawarangpur and Koraput districts with a possibility of heavy rainfall over these districts. While rains are likely to continue even after Thursday till Sunday, no warnings have been issued for those days yet.
In the meantime, some coastal districts like Khordha, Jagatsinghpur and Kendrapara including the Twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack have witnessed a brief spell of rain since early on Wednesday morning.
