An astounding 1.36 lakh cases were resolved at a case clearance rate of 133% in 2022, compared to the 1.02 lakh cases that were filed with the Odisha High Court.The statement claimed that between January 1 and December 23 (the last day before the winter holidays), 1,02,247 cases were launched and 1,36,599 cases were resolved. At the start of the year, there were 1,96,662 cases pending before the high court; as of right now, there are only 1,62,310. 8,769 cases that had been waiting for more than 10 years were also resolved this year, according to the statement.
The number of cases resolved in Odisha’s district courts increased by 53.28 percent, from 2,38,588 in 2021 to 4,47,733 in 2022. Up until November 30, there were 5,00,404 cases filed in district courts; nevertheless, the total number of cases filed in 2021 was 4,34,810. The district courts handed down judgements in 1,41,920 cases as of November 30 (civil 29,209 and criminal 1,12,711), compared to 72,806 judgements (civil 17,370 and criminal 55,436) handed out in 2021. In comparison to 2021, there will be 51% more decisions delivered in 2022.
Compared to the sanctioned strength of 962, the average working strength of judicial officers was 767 in 2021; however, in 2022, those numbers are 776 and 977, respectively. In 2021, 311 cases were disposed of per capita, compared to 577 instances in 2022. The case clearance rate varies between 36.84 and 76.86 percent in 2021 and between 45.76 and 177.32 percent in 2022.As of November 30, there were 18,882 rape and POCSO cases still pending in district courts.
Between January 1 and December 26, 1,042 rape cases were resolved, 125 of which were resolved within a year of the date of taking cognizance. In the same way, 3,309 cases were resolved in the district judiciary during the same time period, of which 660 were resolved within the statutory time frame of one year following the date of taking cognizance of the offence, as specified in Section 35 (2) of the POCSO Act. A total of 4,351 rape and POCSO cases were resolved over the aforementioned time period, 785 of which were resolved within a year of the date of taking cognizance.
