Interview Times had a great conversation with famous Odia film producer Mr. Bijay Kandoi. This is how the interview went-
Can your brief us about yourself to our readers?
Hello everyone, my name is Bijay Kumar Kandoi. I have been a producer of several feature films, telefilms, television serials & web series. I have been actively involved in the film industry for the last 22 years under the banner of Vidisha Kraft.
Were you attracted to film since childhood?
Yes, since childhood I have been attracted as well as inspired by films.
What made you interested in the Odia film industry?
The best way to spread social messages & family values in public is through entertainment. People get inspired by films. Hence I decided to enter the Odia film industry.
Who has been your greatest inspiration in life?
Undoubtedly, my father is the greatest inspiration in my life.
What are the biggest challenges faced by the Odia entertainment industry today?
Odia entertainment industry, especially film production is in very bad shape at present. There are a lot of challenges faced by the entertainment industry today.
Most producers have faced losses in film production since the public is not coming to the theatres. Cinema halls are closing shutters permanently due to continuous losses. The cost of production has increased so much that production has to compromise on quality.
The Government must step in & save the entertainment industry. Producers also must come up with original good content & not rely on remakes.

What has been your biggest achievement in life?
Apart from producing films with social messages my biggest achievement in life has been producing the popular television serial “Shree Jagannath”.
Initially, I had faced many challenges but I was determined to show the public the mythological culture of Lord Jagannath. The serial became so popular that during the telecast the roads were empty & every household used to watch the knowledgeable serial.
Even today people are watching the repeat telecast with great interest.
Who according to you will take the legacy of Ollywood forward (directors and actors)
As per me, the directors shall take the legacy of Ollywood forward. Actors may come & go but the main part of a film is the script & directors with the support of the producers.
How do you see the future of the Odia entertainment industry?
At present, the Odia entertainment industry is under dire strain, but I am confident that it will bounce back if films with a good script, genuine producers & directors are made. The Govt. support is also necessary for the survival of the industry.
Can you tell us about your future projects?
We have several big plans for the future. We shall be producing 2 feature films shortly. Two web series production is underway. Presently we are producing two television serials for the Tarang channel & one for Manjari tv plus one each for Zee Sarthak & Star Tv.
Any piece of advice to young actors/directors/ camera person who wants to join the showbiz industry?
I would advise all aspiring artists, directors, camerapersons to work with dedication & sincerity. Hard work always pays. There is ample scope in the Odia film industry and I wish the entire film fraternity good luck.
