India and China have reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining peace and stability along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) following the 36th meeting of the Working Mechanism for Consultation and Coordination (WMCC) on India–China Border Affairs, held in New Delhi on 6 August.

The high-level diplomatic meeting brought together officials from both countries to review the current situation along the India–China border and discuss measures aimed at preventing tensions while strengthening bilateral engagement. The talks covered border management, boundary delimitation, trans-border cooperation, and mechanisms to improve communication between military and diplomatic authorities.

According to India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), both sides agreed that maintaining peace and tranquility along the Line of Actual Control remains the fundamental basis for the overall development of India–China relations. Officials also stressed the importance of continued dialogue and confidence-building measures to avoid misunderstandings and ensure stability in sensitive border regions.

The meeting also reviewed the implementation of previously agreed confidence-building initiatives and explored ways to improve coordination through diplomatic and military channels. Discussions included issues related to border management and cooperation on trans-border river data sharing, reflecting a broader effort to gradually normalize bilateral ties after years of tensions following the 2020 eastern Ladakh standoff.

While no major breakthrough on the long-standing boundary dispute was announced, both governments described the talks as constructive and reiterated their shared commitment to resolving outstanding issues through peaceful dialogue. Analysts view the latest WMCC meeting as another important step toward maintaining stability and reducing the risk of future confrontations along one of the world’s most sensitive international borders.
