India Successfully Demonstrates Solid Fuel Ducted Ramjet Technology From Odisha

Solid Fuel Ducted Ramjet (SFDR) technology was successfully demonstrated on Tuesday by the Defense Research & Development Organization (DRDO) at the Integrated Test Range (ITR) in Chandipur, off the coast of Odisha. According to a statement from the defense ministry, the successful demonstration puts India in a select group of countries with this technology, which allows for the development of long-range air-to-air missiles to provide a tactical advantage over opponents.

After being first driven by a ground booster motor to the required Mach Number, every subsystem, including the Nozzle-less Booster, Solid Fuel Ducted Ramjet motor, and Fuel Flow Controller, operated as anticipated. The flight data obtained by many tracking devices installed by ITR, Chandipur along the Bay of Bengal coast verified the system’s functionality. Senior scientists from the Defense Research & Development Laboratory, High Energy Materials Research Laboratory, Research Center Imarat, and ITR, among other DRDO laboratories, saw the launch.

Rajnath Singh, the minister of defense, praised DRDO and industry for the successful SFDR technology demonstration. Samir V. Kamat, Chairman of the DRDO and Secretary of the Department of Defense R&D, commended every team that participated in the successful flight test.
