Team India has reached the shores of South Africa to play a full series of 3 test and 3 ODI’s. The test series has more importance as India has never won a test series in South Africa. Apart from South Africa India has won test series in England, New Zealand and Australia (Twice). Even though India is without their prime players Jadeja and Rohit Sharma due to injuries, they have many in form players in the squad to win the series.
However, this series is going to vital for Indian red baller skipper Virat Kohli, With the explosive press conference and going against BCCI, he needs to now do the talk with the bat as well as with his captaincy. While his teammates Rahane and Pujara are already in a position to loose the place due to their consistent poor form, the form of Virat Kohli in test cricket is no better. India’s 3 4 and 5 have averaged less than 30 in the last 2 years with Virat averaging 26.04. What is saving him is his captaincy in test cricket.
However, now that he has revolted against the BCCI, his bats need to do the talking. BCCI is already grooming Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer as long time captain and Rohit Sharma with the form he is in (injuries are concern) can easily take the captaincy in all three formats of the game. Meanwhile India also have KL Rahul as their new Vice Captain in white ball cricket.
Therefore, BCCI has ample scope of changing captains in red ball cricket. Thus it is a do and die series for Virat as Red Ball Batsman as well as skipper.
