Following the United Arab Emirates, Singapore, Nepal, and Bhutan, the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) said on Thursday that it has launched the Unified Payment Services (UPI) across Europe, beginning with France. National Payments Corporation of India International (NPCI International), the international branch of NPCI, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Lyra Network, a French payment solutions firm.As part of the agreement, Lyra Networks would allow Indians to pay using UPI and Rupay cards at terminals and ATMs provided by Lyra Networks, making payment easier for Indian students and visitors. Jawed Ashraf, an Indian ambassador in France, described his experience with the smooth and transparent manner of digital payment and how beneficial it may be in France. The Ambassador stated that he once went to a doctor but did not have the necessary cash or check. “The doctor requested that he pay in cash or by check. He must go to an ATM to obtain the money and pay the doctor. If UPI comes to France, it will help the French people. If we communicate the benefits of UPI with the French people, they will embrace it “he stated.
