The Kalinga Nagar Industries Association (KNIA) has requested the Odisha Chief Secretary (CS) to take action to combat the threat of organized extortion and harassment by some organisations in the district’s Kalinga Nagar Industrial Complex region.
KNIA president PL Kandoi wrote to CS Pradeep Kumar Jena concerning harassment and exploitation by miscreants operating in the region for the purpose of making quick money.
Kandoi said that “hooligans in the guise of organizations have been harassing the industries through extortion.” These people are constantly bringing fraudulent and fabricated complaints before the State Pollution Control Board, putting pressure on them to shut down the units.”
Miscreants are causing havoc in the industries, pushing them to pay high freight rates for road transit and demanding aberrant loading rates at mines. He claimed that many FIRs have been filed at the local Police Station against these associations and sanitised.
The industries organization requested the CS’s assistance, requesting that he encourage the district government to offer the required support, undertake an investigation into the miscreants’ nefarious acts, and take suitable action against them.
