Hemant Kumar Lohia was killed in Jammu and Kashmir, and the People’s Anti-Fascist Force (PAFF), a branch of Lashkar-e-Taiba in India, has taken credit for the crime. On Monday, October 3, Lohia, 57, was discovered dead at his house outside of Jammu. According to the police, he had burn injuries all over his body, including a cut throat.
Yasir, Lohia’s domestic assistance, was named by police as the primary suspect. The suspect is the subject of a manhunt. According to police sources, CCTV footage found at the location of the incident showed the suspect fleeing shortly after the murder. The TRF statement was released a few hours after the police said they had ruled out any connection to terrorism and had also seized the offender’s weapon and certain records attesting to his mental state.
Initial investigation of the crime scene revealed that Lohia must have been applying oil to his swollen foot. He claimed that the assassin tried to set fire to the body after suffocating Lohia to death and also slitting his throat with a shattered ketchup bottle. The guards on duty at the officer’s home noticed the fire in his chamber. The door was locked from the inside, according to the ADGP, so they had to bust it open.
The Resistance Front (TRF), a terror group that was established in 2019, mostly operates in Jammu and Kashmir. Soon after the Narendra Modi administration repealed Article 370, which granted Kashmir a unique status, the terror group came to light. The Center applauded it as a forceful move to put an end to terrorism in the valley and restore normalcy to the long-suspended region.
