Following the National Democratic Alliance’s (NDA) landslide victory in the Assembly elections on Tuesday, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy tendered his resignation, as announced by the YSR Congress Party, to Governor S. Abdul Nazeer. The Governor may request that Jagan Mohan Reddy serve as acting chief minister until his successor takes the oath of office. A few minutes after giving a press conference, Jagan Mohan Reddy sent his resignation, stating that the party was surprised by the results and questioning why the YSR Congress suffered defeat despite implementing several welfare schemes that benefited crores of people.
Jagan Mohan Reddy conceded the fight, promising to rise bravely from the ashes and saying his party would carry on fighting for the people. He sent his warmest wishes for the new administration. With 106 seats won and 57 seats leading, the TDP-Jana Sena-BJP combination was on a collision course for a resounding win. Additionally, the tripartite alliance held a lead in 21 of the 25 Lok Sabha seats. YSRCP was ahead in eight divisions but only managed to win three Assembly seats. Additionally, it held the lead in four Lok Sabha seats.
The YSRCP won 22 Lok Sabha seats and 151 Assembly seats in 2019.
