Jindal Steel & Power (JSP), a leading steelmaker, has received the FICCI CSR Special Commendation Award for its efforts in combating the COVID-19 pandemic in the country. Shri Arjun Munda, Hon’ble Union Tribal Affairs Minister, Government of India, presented the prestigious award to Shri Prashanta Kumar Hota, President & Head (Group CSR), JSP, during the FICCI CSR Summit and Awards held at New Delhi on December 2012, 2022. Padma Bhushan Smt. Rajashree Birla, Chairperson of FICCI CSR, was in attendance.

JSP, led by its Chairman, Shri Naveen Jindal, was one of the few organisations in India to launch multifaceted initiatives to assist the community and government in combating the COVID-19 pandemic in India. Immediately following the pandemic’s onset in India, the steelmaker’s CSR arm, JSP Foundation, led by Smt Shallu Jindal, launched a series of on-the-ground services to alleviate the suffering of the poor and vulnerable.

During the Second Pandemic Wave, the steelmaker delivered over 5,000 tonnes of Liquid Medical Oxygen (LMO) to 13 states via road and Indian Railways’ Oxygen Express. It also provided the Government of Odisha with two cryogenic tankers for LMO transportation.

JSP designated 700 Oxygen beds in its Fortis OP Jindal Hospital & Research Centre in Raigarh and Tamnar, Chhattisgarh, and a specialised COVID Care Centre in Angul for health care services during the Pandemic, supported by ICUs, ventilators, and other capabilities. In addition, the Foundation distributed lakhs of facemasks and thousands of litres of sanitizer to the community and COVID-19 warriors on the front lines. The Foundation’s multiple buyback arrangements also protected the livelihoods of farmers and SHG Women.
