The 2026 Steelie Award for Excellence in People for Dakshata Engineering Safety: One Duty Position at a Time has been given to Jindal Steel Limited. On October 12, 2026, the World Steel Association (Worldsteel) declared the winner of the 17th Steelie Awards in New Delhi. Dakshata tackles a basic safety issue in the steel industry. Conventional training frequently measures attendance rather than demonstrated readiness, despite the fact that people in different duty positions confront varying hazards.
The curriculum outlines the behaviors, practical skills, emergency readiness, and safety information needed for each position. After that, it evaluates capability, finds gaps, provides focused training, and reevaluates performance. The results guide deployment and oversight. Over 27,100 executives and non-executives from six sites have been covered by the program’s Safety Lens.
The first extensive evaluation of 11,639 non-executives revealed a discrepancy between knowledge and practical capacity, with an average safety knowledge score of 0.81 compared to a practical skill score of 0.71. Additionally, Jindal Steel has administered 372 safety and HSE programs with 96% completion through 69 qualified trainers and documented 16,539 new-hire exams. AI-enabled workplace observations, digital risk analytics, access controls, hands-on learning, and designed risk reduction all support the capabilities model at the Raipur Machinery Division.
During FY 2025–26, the site recorded 17,752 safety observations and eliminated or mechanised 379 high-risk tasks. It also improved emergency response time by 15 per cent to 5.25 minutes and achieved an LTIFR of 0.00. The Steelie Awards celebrate the achievements of worldsteel member companies. The 2026 Excellence in People winner was selected by an independent expert panel. Jindal Steel was chosen from a finalist field that also included China Baowu, InfraBuild, Tata Steel and USIMINAS.
