After reviewing rescue efforts and damage assessments throughout the state, Odisha Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari ordered officials to distribute the remaining flood damage compensation within 72 hours. Pujari evaluated the status of compensation distribution and post-flood rehabilitation work during a review meeting with departmental officials and district Collectors at Rajiv Bhawan here.
This year, the state had twelve low-pressure systems, six of which developed into depressions and caused extensive damage in over 28 districts. While other areas of the state also reported varied degrees of damage, Baleshwar, Bhadrak, and Jajpur were among the districts most severely impacted. A ₹1,000-crore compensation package for flood-affected areas was announced by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi. Damage to homes, boats, fishing nets, agricultural land and crops, and other assets is covered by the assistance.
According to the announcement, ₹288.72 crore has been given by the Special Relief Commissioner for the management of relief camps, home repairs, agricultural support, and other compensatory measures. Distribution has been finished in nearly every area, despite the deadline of October 10 being set to guaranty that recompense reached those impacted. Within the next three days, the Minister instructed authorities to resolve the outstanding cases.
Funds have also been allocated to various departments, including Agriculture and Farmers’ Empowerment, Energy, Panchayati Raj and Drinking Water, Water Resources, Housing and Urban Development, and Forest, Environment and Climate Change, for repairs and restoration. The departments have begun the necessary work. Pujari said comprehensive measures would be undertaken to minimise the impact of heavy rainfall and tackle urban flooding in the coming days.
