During a live coverage of the Republican National Convention (RNC) on Wednesday, MSNBC host Joy Reid sparked outrage with her remarks drawing parallels between former President Donald Trump’s recent assassination attempt and President Joe Biden’s recovery from Covid-19.
Reid, co-hosting with Rachel Maddow, made the controversial statement suggesting that Biden’s rebound from coronavirus was a “sign of strength” comparable to Trump surviving an assassination attempt. She referred to both Trump and Biden as “elderly” and commented on the circumstances surrounding Trump’s encounter with an active shooter, describing it as a “photo-op” opportunity that lasted nine seconds.
The remarks by Reid, known for her outspoken commentary on political issues, immediately drew criticism across social media platforms and from various political figures. Critics condemned her for what they viewed as insensitive and inappropriate comparisons between two vastly different events involving the safety and health of prominent political figures.
