“JPC Report on Waqf Bill to Be Presented in Parliament Today Amid Opposition’s Dissent Notes Controversy”

The Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC), led by Jagdambika Pal, has adopted the draft report and amended Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024, with revisions to 14 clauses. The report, including evidence and findings, will be presented in Parliament during the ongoing Budget Session. BJP MP Jagdambika Pal, along with Sanjay Jaiswal, is set to table the report today.

Pal emphasized that the revised bill includes provisions to ensure Waqf benefits reach marginalized groups, including the poor, women, and orphans. Despite the adoption, opposition leaders, including AIMIM’s Asaduddin Owaisi, have raised concerns, submitting dissent notes. Owaisi claimed parts of his dissent were redacted, describing them as factual and not controversial.

The JPC report, which cleared the Waqf Bill 1995 with 25 amendments, has sparked debate ahead of its presentation in Parliament.
