At its Narayanposhi Iron & Manganese Ore Mines, SW Steel’s Odisha Mining Division held a thorough Labour Codes Awareness course to improve workers’ comprehension of the new labor laws implemented by the Indian government. The initiative involved 250 workers in total, including direct and indirect personnel. The meeting was chaired by senior representatives from the Directorate General of Mines Safety (DGMS), Bhubaneswar Region-2, including Ulimela Siva Sankara (DDMS Mining), Shankarsan Behera (DMS Mechanical), K Maheswara Reddy (DMS Electrical), and Nasina Balasubrahmaniam (DMS Mining).
The four new labour codes, which combine 29 previous labour regulations into a single, more straightforward regulatory framework, were thoroughly explained by DGMS representatives. Women’s employment, gender discrimination, maternity benefits, equal pay for equal work, working hours, health benefits, the ability for all female employees to work night shifts, the definition of an extended family, gratuities, and insurance coverage were some of the significant subjects covered under the amended labor codes.
Senior executives attended the meeting, including Ram Shankar Sharma, Operations and Project Head, JSW Steel (Odisha Mining Division), Narayanposhi Tapan Rath, and others. Officials at JSW Steel helped staff members comprehend the real-world effects of the updated rules. To reinforce the lessons learned, awareness brochures were given to every attendee.
