In an urgent statement to the House of Commons, Justin Trudeau, the prime minister of Canada, claimed that there are “credible allegations of a potential link” between Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar and agents of the Indian government. On Monday, Canada even went so far as to expel a top Indian official, further deteriorating the already strained relations between the two countries. The top diplomat allegedly had a solid connection to the murder, according to Canadian Foreign Minister Mélanie Joly.
Sikh leader of the New Democrats, Jagmeet Singh, asserted that the assassination must have repercussions. “I could never have imagined hearing the prime minister of Canada corroborate a potential link between a murder of a Canadian citizen on Canadian soil by a foreign government,” he said.
We’ll be sure to look at every potential link and turn no stone.Pierre Poilievre, the head of the Conservative party, said that if the claims are accurate, they “represent an outrageous affront to Canada” and that people should not be subjected to extrajudicial executions.
