K Sanjay Murthy was named the new Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India by the Indian government on Monday. Girish Chandra Murmu will be replaced by Murthy, an IAS officer from the Himachal Pradesh cadre who was born in 1989.
On November 20, 2024, Girish Chandra Murmu will step down from his position as Secretary of the Department of Higher Education in the Ministry of Education, and Murthy will take over.
A notification issued by the Department of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Finance, stated: “By virtue of the power vested in her by clause (1) of Article 148 of the Constitution of India, the President has been pleased to appoint K Sanjay Murthy as the Comptroller and Auditor General of India, effective from the date he assumes charge of his office.” Murmu, who took charge as CAG on August 8, 2020, will step down upon completing his term later this month.
