Kartika Purnima celebrated across Odisha, Last Lunar Eclipse of 2022

by Dikhyaa Mohanty

Today is the concluding day of the holy month of Kartik, and residents of Odisha have celebrated Kartika Purnima. The Boit Bandana ceremony has also been practised on the occasion of Kartika Purnima in several regions of the state. In this tradition, people float different homemade boats in ponds and rivers.

Due to the Covid-19 outbreak, there has been a two-year hiatus in the Boita Bandana ritual’s observance in several water bodies. The Boita Bandana rite honors our forefathers who embarked on a voyage to far-off lands aboard ships for commerce. The Boita Bandana festival is still held today as a tribute to their illustrious career.

The lunar eclipse will also be visible today. On the other hand, on the final day of Panchuka, which is also Kartika Purnima, the holy trinity will grant worshippers darshan in “Suna besha.” In “Sunabesha” or Rajadhiraj besha, Lord Jagannath and his siblings would be visible. At 2:50 yesterday, the holy trio was dressed in “Suna besha.” The Vogamandap ceremony, which finished at 5:40 am, has already been followed by the public darshan. Those who are worshiping enter the temple through the lion door. Darshan will go on until 2:00 p.m. After 2:38 p.m., the numerous Nitikanti of the Lords will start. On Kartika Purnima, many worshippers traveled to Puri to receive Lord Jagannath’s blessings.
