The families of each victim received checks totaling 2.5 lakh and a government job as consolation from West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.Mamata Banerjee, the chief minister of West Bengal, paid a visit to the East Midnapore district on Saturday and apologised to the families of the 10 people who perished in the May 16 explosion at a Khadikul village illegal firecracker factory.”I humbly apologies for this occurrence to the impacted families. Banerjee gave each family a cheque for 2.5 lakh and a government job as compensation after distributing the funds. “Let me know if I can help you in any other way,” she said.
The chief minister, who also oversees the home office, requested a criminal investigation department (CID) investigation on May 16.Banerjee acknowledged on Saturday that the officer-in-charge (OC) of the Egra police station ignored repeated complaints from Khadikul villagers while senior police officers had no intelligence information on the factory.”I urge neighbourhood residents to maintain vigil and notify the OC if anyone makes illegal firecrackers,” she stated. Tell me if the OC doesn’t take action. I’m going to move him. The OC who worked here was transferred as a result of his failure to respond to frequent concerns. Executive level officials lacked intelligence inputs. This would not have happened otherwise.
