Manoj Ahuja(Manoj Ahuja is new CBSE boss), a 1990 batch IAS officer, has been appointed as the chairman of Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) in the latest bureaucratic rejig effected by the Modi led government at the Centre. Ahuja, a talented officer who has been cooling his heels for some time has been deservedly chosen for the coveted post.
Ahuja’s(Manoj Ahuja is new CBSE boss) last assignment was at the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration where he served as the Special Director. The CBSE board functions under the auspices of the Ministry of Human Resource Development which is directly overseen by the Secretary, School Education & Literacy.
One of the critical challenges for Ahuja is the completion of Class X and Class XII examinations. Both have been delayed after the outbreak and rapid spread of Novel Coronavirus disease.
Aside from conducting examinations, the evaluation process is equally challenging as the formalities need to be completed by conforming to social distancing norms.
But given Ahuja’s(Manoj Ahuja is new CBSE boss) impeccable service record as an upright bureaucrat, no challenge seems daunting enough. It was his tenure as the Odisha steel & mines secretary that showcased the best of administrative acumen in Ahuja.
He negotiated the gruelling MB Shah Commission of enquiry probing into large scale cases of illegal mining in Odisha. Ahuja had cleaned up the Augean stables in Odisha’s sullied mining sector with the introduction of i3MS or Integrated Mines and Minerals Management System.
With one stroke, the futuristic officer checkmated illegal mining and buried it. Later, i3MS emerged as an exemplar in combating unlawful mining practices as a host of states replicated its model.
In his earlier avatar as the secretary, food supplies & consumer welfare, Ahuja had set the record straight by unleashing a string of reforms to root out corruption.
A no-nonsense officer with zero tolerance for corruption, Ahuja’s(Manoj Ahuja is new CBSE boss) vast administrative experience and vision will help steer the CBSE ship through all weather.
