FEATURE: Manoj Kumar Jena is a man who turned aspirations into achievements, emerging as a changemaker in Balasore’s real estate sector. From his modest beginnings in Fuladi, a village near Balasore, to becoming the Director of GLR Infra, he has focused his efforts on redefining affordable housing for middle-class families. His work reflects not only his entrepreneurial spirit but also his deep desire to bring meaningful change to the lives of countless families dreaming of a home to call their own.
Born on October 20, 1977, in Fuladi, a small village in Balasore district, Odisha, Manoj Kumar Jena began his journey amidst modest surroundings. Growing up just 5 km away from the town of Balasore, his early education saw him completing his 10th standard in 1992 and graduating from F.M. College in 1997. These foundational years cultivated a mindset of hard work and determination that would later define his multifaceted career.
After completing his education, Manoj ventured into the business world, starting with an STD booth. Over the years, he diversified into various fields, including prawn culture and running a successful sports goods store named Kalinga Sports, a venture he sustained for an impressive 20 years. From there, his entrepreneurial spirit led him to the tractor business and a unique used car concept. Despite achieving success in each endeavor, Manoj yearned for a deeper sense of satisfaction—a calling that would define his legacy.
In 2019, Manoj entered the real estate industry with the vision of creating affordable housing for middle-class and lower-middle-class families. “Homes are like dreams, and I wanted to make those dreams come true by providing people with a safe and affordable place to live,” he says. While many in the real estate sector chase high-end clients, Manoj’s focus remains steadfast on serving families with limited budgets.
GLR Infra, under his leadership, has introduced three major projects in Balasore: GLR River City in Bheempura, GLR Park City in Pachudia, and ALR Royal in the heart of the city. These projects represent more than just structures; they embody hope, security, and the realization of dreams.

Manoj’s most fulfilling moment came when he delivered a house worth 30 lakhs to a middle-class family despite skyrocketing land and raw material costs. “It was a challenge, but witnessing their joy made it all worthwhile,” he shares. Such moments fuel his mission to create homes that are not just affordable but also tailored to the needs of the people.
Looking ahead, Manoj aims to revolutionize housing for middle and lower-income groups. His goal for the next 5-6 years is ambitious yet grounded: to create homes for every middle-class and lower-middle-class family in Odisha, helping them transform their dreams into reality.
He believes government support can play a crucial role in achieving this. By providing fly ash and other raw materials at subsidized rates and offering land incentives, Manoj envisions a future where housing becomes more accessible and economical. “If these measures are implemented, the cost of real estate will come down significantly, making quality housing more affordable for everyone,” he asserts.
Manoj is optimistic about the future of real estate in Odisha. With the state government’s focus on infrastructure—including plans for an airport, seaport, and metro connectivity—the growth prospects for the sector are immense. He sees this as an opportunity not just for economic development but also for enhancing the quality of life for the people of Odisha.
To the younger generation, Manoj’s advice is simple yet profound: dream big and stay committed. “Your dreams are the foundation of your achievements. Without dreams, there is no vision. But dreaming alone is not enough—your commitment and hard work should reflect your aspirations. With willpower, dedication, and consistent effort, you can achieve any goal you set for yourself.”
He also reminds young changemakers that focus and perseverance are key. “Don’t get diverted from your path. Stay true to your goals, and success will follow. Hard work never goes unnoticed, and even God supports those who are dedicated to their dreams.”
Manoj Kumar Jena’s journey, rooted in determination and fueled by a desire to serve, continues to inspire and impact lives. His work in creating affordable housing stands as a beacon of hope for middle and lower-middle-class families, while his vision for Odisha’s growth reflects his deep connection to the state he calls home.
With GLR Infra, Manoj Kumar Jena is not just building homes; he is building futures, transforming lives, and proving that with the right intent and relentless dedication, dreams can indeed become reality.
