MLA Suresh Routray refuses to make apology for ‘slip of tongue’

by Dikhyaa Mohanty

Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) President Niranjan Patnaik has issued a show-cause notice to veteran party leader and Jatni MLA Suresh Routray for his comment on the selection of the state unit president.

According to the reports, Routray had recently triggered a row by claiming that Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik takes the final call with respect to the selection of OPCC president.

Responding to Routray’s comment, the OPCC chief said “such kind of statement is not expected from a senior party leader like you. You are requested to submit a satisfactory reply soon explaining under what circumstances you gave the statement. After getting a reply from you, it would be sent to AICC for its perusal.”

Responding to the show cause notice, Routray said “I have not committed any blunder. OPCC president himself and senior leader Jaydev Jena have spoken in a similar vein earlier. They should first apologize for their statements. There is no question of seeking an apology for my slip of the tongue.”
