A vaccine manufacturer named Moderna revealed on Friday that it is suing Pfizer and BioNTech for using its technology to develop the covid vaccine shots. Additionally, Moderna asserted in the statement that Pfizer and BioNTech had infringed on patents it had acquired for its mRNA technology between 2010 and 2016. The company filed patent infringement lawsuits in both a federal court in the United States and a court in Germany. In order to help patients fight the coronavirus, Moderna and Pfizer both offer two-shot vaccines.

In the press release, Moderna stated that it is not attempting to have Pfizer’s vaccine taken off the market or to stop future sales of it, nor is it pursuing damages for its sale under any particular circumstances. The sale of the vaccines in AMC 92 nations, which are low- and middle-income nations, as well as in situations where “The U.S. Government would be responsible for any damages,” as well as for actions prior to March 8, 2022, are among those circumstances.

Arbutus Biopharma and Genevant Sciences, two biotechnology companies, have filed lawsuits against Moderna over the way the mRNA is delivered to the body and packaged. Pfizer / BioNTech and Moderna are being sued over a related technology by Alnylam, another biotechnology company. The Moderna and Pfizer-BioNTech shots employ mRNA technology as opposed to conventional vaccines, which depend on injecting weak or dead forms of a virus to enable the immune system to recognise it and produce antibodies.

mRNA vaccines, on the other hand, give cells the instructions they need to create a harmless fragment of the spike protein that is present on the surface of the virus that causes Covid-19. Once cells have produced this spike protein, they are able to identify and combat the actual virus.
