Today, the Odisha Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, approved the request to add the Mundari language to the Eighth Schedule of the Indian Constitution. The Munda and Mundari tribes of Odisha will gain from the inclusion of the “Mundari” language in the eighth schedule.
It will support Mundari language and culture preservation and promotion. The Mundari-speaking population’s tendency to switch to other languages will be controlled. It will encourage writing as well. There will be an increase in literary activity, such as the release of books in various genres.The Mundari Mundari-speaking population’s indigenous knowledge and customs will be conserved. The change will contribute to creating new opportunities for study and research centered on the promotion and preservation of the “Mundari” language.
The recommendation by the government to add Mundari language to the 8th schedule won’t have any budgetary repercussions.
