On the occasion of Naga Panchami, the rare Nagavarana Besha ( Gold attire) of Lord Chandrashekhar was organized at the famous Kapilash Shrine in Dhenkanal. As per the information, the gold attire is being adorned after a gap of 70 years because of the theft of the previous gold ornaments used for this attire. The newly made Panchbakra Crown and Nagas is made up of Gold and weights almost two Kilograms which costs around a whopping amount of one crores thirty lakhs.
As per the Information, this rare Nagavarana Attire is conducted three times a year, i.e., on Mahashivratri ( Jagar Amavasya), Makarsankranti and on Pausa Purnima. During the time of Monarchical period, sevayats used to perform this attire with gold ornaments, but since 1950 Silver ornaments were used due to the theft of the previous gold ornaments used for this attire.
Worth mentioning that under the Chairmanship of the District Collector and Magistrate Shri Bhumesh Chandra Behera an initiative was started to collect fund for forging new gold ornaments that will be used for this attire. Since last Shivaratri the preparations kick-started to forge new Gold Panchbakra Crown and Gold Nagas for the lord to adorn him with the Nagavarana Attire.
Due to the prevailing Covid-19 situation, only Servitors, press personnel’s, few devotees, staffs of temple administration, officials of Dist. Administration and Debattor Department staffs were present inside the temple.
