Export Preparedness Index (EPI) prepared by NITI Aayog for the Indian States, Odisha has now obtained the 5th position among the other 36 States and UT. Because of Odisha’s empowering ecosystem in as Trade support and export infrastructure, the State has secured the 5th position.
With a score of 58.23, Odisha stands the 5th position. It has also categorized as an over-performing State with the expanse of development in certain areas such as Transport Connectivity and Export Finance. Odisha secured the 2nd position in the category as Export Ecosystem, next to Maharashtra, Gujurat, Tamil Nandu and Rajasthan.
The Central agency also praised the Trade Support initiative of the Odisha Government. Among eight coastal states, Odisha managed to secure the 4th position. In terms of industrialization, Odisha has observed a rapid transformation and has been able to pull tremendous investments from domestic as well as global investors. Even when the COVID pandemic hit all over the globe, Odisha has been able to acquire the highest investment even during these crises.
Asit Tripathy, IAS, Chief Secretary, Government of Odisha, said “The report released by NITI Aayog on export preparedness of Odisha is promising. Odisha has done well in major parameters and is poised to become the manufacturing hub of Eastern India.”
We intend to be among the top three in all key parameters. Among eight coastal states of India, which have higher than average export preparedness score according to the report, Odisha is at the top-four position, leaving behind states such as Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and West Bengal”.
Odisha gave a stable representation in Trade Promotion score to which the State was able to secure the 2nd position in this category. The NITI Aayog applauded the initiatives of the Government of Odisha in building an export empowering ecosystem and the productive role in expediting exports.
The State has conveyed around 24 capacity building workshops to accommodate exposure to traders which will give guidelines into adopting best practices in exports. The State is now one of the top five states in terms of strengthening its research and development infrastructure.
