The Directorate of Public Health reaffirmed on Wednesday that there has not yet been a confirmed case of avian influenza in humans from Odisha. An official news statement states that one member of the culling squad who had ILI symptoms before to the culling’s commencement has been isolated; samples of him were gathered and forwarded to RMRC Bhubaneswar for diagnosis. Oseltamivir medication dosage has been given to him. The State’s micro and grassroots action plan to limit avian flu has been implemented in full, according to Health and Family Welfare Minister Mukesh Mahaling.
The Rapid Response Team (RRT) moved quickly in response to reports of an outbreak that occurred on August 23, 2024, in the Puri district’s Satyabadi and Pipili blocks, with the epicenters located at Raichakradharpur and Abalpur, respectively. After being gathered, samples were tested. Following confirmation of avian influenza by the National Institute of High Security Animal Diseases (NIHSAD), Bhopal, the Department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Sciences promptly initiated containment measures, including outbreak investigation, culling, and daily surveillance, in accordance with the “Avian Influenza Containment Protocol” established by the Indian government.
Everyone in question was promptly informed of the epidemic alert. The functions of the district health team commenced. Different micro-plans were created and implemented in the aforementioned blocks. Currently, home to house visits are conducted every day in an effort to actively seek for any suspected cases of SARI and ILI. The region has also been inspected by the state RRT team. Every day, cullers, poultry farm owners, and their families have their health checked for influenza-like symptoms. Oseltamivir tablets are given out as a prophylactic measure. Activities related to IEC and BCC are underway. In the affected areas, all Swasthya kanthas have been updated. At the Community Health Centre (CHC), Mangalpur, an isolation ward has been set up for the purpose of placing suspects under quarantine.
