No Mechanism To Collect Data On Vaccination In Odisha

The largest vaccination programme for the world deadliest virus – Covid-19 have been begun since four-month in Odisha but still the state lack behind proper mechanism to collect data on the vaccination status of the people who are testing positive for the Covid.

According to the official report, the health experts says that the vaccination status data would be very useful for the research and generating awareness among the people and the vaccination along with the symptoms-specific data should be collected during the collection of the samples at the health facilities.

The health experts also believe that this data will not only help in deciding the treatment protocol but in case a person tests positive but also break the transmission if the infected person is isolated on time.

Dr E Venkata Rao, Community medicine expert and principal investigator for the Covaxin vaccine stated that at least information on five things should be collected from a person at the time of sample collection for Covid tests. He further added that the team who are collecting the samples should ask and prepare a chart on vaccination status, whether single or double dose, symptoms, the duration between the date of vaccination and onset of symptoms, previous treatment history, and mask use.

Health officials also claimed that the data is available on people who have succumbed post-vaccination and the districts have been asked to collect data on vaccination status from people who have tested positive.

According to the official record, 149 people which includes130 asymptomatic were found positive after taking Covishield and 12, including seven asymptomatic, after receiving Covaxin. As many as 83 among Covishield receivers and four among Covaxin vaccinated people have been detected positive after two doses.
