Odisha Coal and Power Limited (OCPL), the first coal mining company in Odisha(OCPL reaches one million tonne coal milestone) to start coal production has exceeded the target by producing 1.01 Million Tonnes of coal in the FY 2019-20, said Bishnupada Sethi, Principal Secretary, Department of Energy and Chairman, OCPL.
More than 0.51 Million Tonne of coal has been dispatched to Kanika siding of MCL involving a revenue generation of around Rs 85 crores.
This has become possible due to the consistent and sincere efforts put forth by the OCPL(OCPL reaches one million tonne coal milestone) Team, support from the Odisha government and Government of India on all the fronts.
Further, it is planned to produce four million tonnes of coal in the FY 2020-21 as per the approved mining plan.
The other major achievements of the Company in the FY 2019-20 are (i) smooth and hassle-free relocation of the entire 240 families of Manoharpur village to the R&R colony (phase-I) constructed by OCPL (ii) construction of R&R colony (Phase-II) and relocation of 78 families out of 165 families of village Sanghumuda and (iii) construction of major part of Coal Handling Plant and township for employees of OCPL.
OCPL is the first company in the State to provide the best R&R (rehabilitation & resettlement) facilities which are unique and unprecedented.
OCPL(OCPL reaches one million tonne coal milestone) has also spent around Rs 6.57 crore towards Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).
OCPL, a Government of Odisha Company, has been allotted with Manoharpur and Dip-side of Manoharpur coal blocks by Ministry of Coal, Government of India in 2015 to produce coal & supply to the 4x660MW expansion power plants of Odisha Power Generation Corporation (OPGC).
On obtaining all the permits and clearances and acquiring the land, coal(OCPL reaches one million tonne coal milestone) production from the Manoharpur mine has started in October 2019. However, due to evacuation constraints, coal could not be supplied to the OPGC.
On the request of OCPL, Ministry of Coal, Government of India in November 2019 and the Department of Steel & Mines, Odisha government in December 2019 accorded approval for the sale of coal to CIL.
OCPL started dispatching coal to Kanika siding of MCL, a subsidiary of CIL with effect from December 14, 2019.
