Odisha Asks To Remove 5 Districts Out Of Centre’s Anti-Maoist Scheme


During the inaugural ceremony of the 62nd Senior Police Officer’s Conference, DGP Abhay talked about the number of left-wing extremist violence and death cases declined in Odisha this year.

DGP stated that in 2020 around17 Maoists were neutralized, along with 32 got arrested and 21 surrendered. The authorities have requested the center keep the five districts out of Security Related Expenditure (SRE) Scheme. The five districts included- Angul, Boudh, Deogarh, Nayagarh, and Sambalpur. Even the Odisha police have increased the numbers in the Swabhiman Anchal with new bases set up in several parts of the area.

DGP also appreciated the great word by the SPs of Malkangiri Kandhamal and Kalahandi districts and DIG SIW and Intelligence in containing Left-wing Extremism in Odisha. The left-wing extremism is completely self-motivated, and with time they keep changing. However, he requested the police force to keep going their operations and also to be fully prepared to handle any situation. He further applauded the police personnel’s work in Odisha for efficiently carrying their duties and empathy due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The pandemic has affected all the people, and handling that situation by the police forces was commendable.

 “The Covid-19 had impacted people of all the segments in the state. The Odisha Police personnel handled the situation with compassion and empathy. The police personnel created a new image by devoting themselves to the service of Odisha during the worst situations,” DGP said.

Around 47 police personnel lost their lives while doing their duty during the Corinavirus pandemic, and over 900 personnel donated plasma for the treatment of COVID-19 patients. Even the force did a commendable job by tracking down the illegal narcotics trades with record seizure of Ganja and brown sugar.
