The “unrelenting” Odisha government launched the inexpensive transportation program for residents of the Gajapati district on Friday, despite the fact that private bus owners had resorted to an indefinite strike in opposition to the Location Accessible Multimodal Initiative (LAccMI).
Through a video conference from Bhubaneswar, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik announced the termination of the bus service. “This has sparked a new trend of development in the panchayats, strengthening social ties and the state economy by connecting villages with villages,” he added.
He claimed that 36 LAccMI buses would run in the first phase of the project, linking the district headquarters with 126 panchayats and seven blocks in Gajapati. In addition, 69 new bus stoppages have been constructed and 64 have been refurbished. Naveen also spoke about the initiative’s launch in Malakangiri, where on October 12th, 36 buses began operating on various routes. “Under this scheme, more than 1,000 buses will run throughout the state,” he declared.
