The groundbreaking ceremony for the Aditya Alumina Refinery (HINDALCO) and the Apparel Unit, which will be established by the Utkal Alumina Social Welfare Foundation, was presided over by the Honorable Chief Minister of Odisha, Shri Naveen Patnaik. The Aditya Birla Group Chairperson, Shri Kumar Mangalam Birla, was present at the function.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was formally signed on October 5th with Hindalco Industries Limited in order to create a long-term supply chain for raw materials for the HINDALCO Alumina Refinery located in Kanshariguda, Rayagada. This historic event is evidence of the government’s proactive efforts to expedite the implementation of projects under the 5T initiative.
With the construction of an alumina refinery by Hindalco Industries, Odisha—a state that led the way in mineral-based industries—has raised its economic profile even more. The strategic move not only reaffirms Odisha’s leadership in mineral-driven enterprises but also emerges as a mega project poised to employ 4000 people in Rayagada district, providing a livelihood for families in the area. This project is expected to yield an impressive 2 MTPA capacity of refined alumina from bauxite ore.
Furthermore, the Aditya Birla Group has promised to establish an apparel manufacturing facility with a 36 lakh shirt production capacity in Rayagada’s Phuljuba village. On the occasion Mr. Kumar Mangalam Birla, Chairman, Aditya Birla Group, communicated: “Today marks another new chapter in the Odisha growth story as we celebrate the laying of the foundation stone here in Kanshariguda for Hindalco’s second alumina refinery in the state. The 2-MTPA Aditya Alumina refinery will play an important role in driving the aluminium value chain. It will also shine a spotlight on the state of Odisha. The metal born here will be of national significance, used in critical applications such as space, defence, aerospace and pharma.”

We will work with the Aditya Birla Group to ensure the smooth implementation of this project that will create employment opportunities in both the districts and will encourage economic growth in our state.”
