In western Odisha, the Agharia Samaj is a significant group. Agriculture-dependent members of this community are mostly concentrated in the districts of Bargarh, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Sundergarh, Kalahandi, Balangir, and Deogarh. They recently discussed their different problems with Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik. They asked the Chief Minister to provide them with housing close to Bhubaneswar since they were having problems finding places to stay when they traveled to Bhubaneswar for different occasions.
The Chief Minister has declared that the Agharia community will receive half an acre of land close to Bhubaneswar in response to their request and the community’s broader interests. For this reason, the Chief Minister has given the Principal Secretary instructions to start the process of locating the land. In addition, he said that the Chief Minister’s Special Assistance Fund will contribute Rs 3 crore to the construction of Agharia Samaj Bhawan.
