Odisha declined to the category of leaders states category in startup ranking from the top performers’ category as the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade on Friday declared State Startup Ranking Results in 2019.
The state has bagged the “institutional leaders” and “regulatory change champions” tags and other states as the states’ Startup ranking framework 2019 has seven broad reform areas.
The regenerative areas include institutional support, easing compliances, relaxation in public procurement norms, incubation support, seed funding support, venture funding support, and awareness and outreach.
Union Commerce and industry minister Piyush Goyal released the result prepared on the state’s support to Startup ecosystems.
Gujarat topped the state Startup ecosystem rankings, whereas Karnataka and Kerala retained their positions as “top performers.”
States acquired the “leader states” tags include Bihar, Maharashtra, Odisha, and Rajashtan.
The StartUp ecosystem rankings came a week after Odisha had plummeted to the bottom of the ease of doing business rankings released by the DPIIT from 14th place it had occupied in the previous ranking.
The state government decided to challenge the Centre’s ease of doing business rankings.
To promote the Startup ecosystem in Odisha, the state government in 2016 unveiled a Startup policy aimed to create at least 1,000 Startups in five years.
“We have also come up with several other policies on different sectors to promote entrepreneurship in the state,” said an official of the state micro, small and medium enterprises.
