Gulmaki Dalawzi Habib by winning the local bodies election created History in the State. She is the first Muslim woman chairperson in the urban corporate elected directly.

She has defeated Biju Janta Dal candidate Samita Mishra by 3256 votes from Bhadrak urban corporate. She fought as an independent candidate but faced ire from BJD. The Muslim population is sizeable in numbers.

Gulmaki Dalawzi Habib is a 31 year MBA graduate. She told us that she got love and support from every religion and party. She said that the reservation point was missing from her mind.

There is less representation in the state from the minority community. The population of the community is around 3%. There is a cabinet minister but no required representation in state politics.
