To plan for the 2025 flood season, the Department of Water Resources held an important preliminary review meeting Monday. The conference, which was presided over by Development Commissioner-turned-Additional Chief Secretary Anu Garg, was centered on making sure that the state has strong flood control systems. The necessity for proactive measures to reduce flood risks was emphasized at the conference, which was attended by high authorities such as the Chief Engineer, Chief Engineer-cum-Special Secretary, Chief Engineer (Procurement), and other Chief Engineers.
Garg gave authorities instructions to prioritize timely river embankment inspections, hold simulated exercises, make sure drainage systems are well cleaned, and create strong cooperation at all levels. The department’s efforts to improve readiness were highlighted through presentations and updates on simulated water management drills in medium and large reservoirs. By making the state more resilient to possible flooding, the orders hope to protect people and property during the monsoon season.
